Last year, I was really losing my Instagram mojo. I’ve always been grateful that it’s a free platform and Instagram in its heyday was a place for both community and to really help you grow as a small business. However, the last few years have been tough on Instagram and nearly all my online sales were coming from Google or direct visits to my website. I still loved the creative community but I needed to see some return on all the time and energy I was using to create content.
I dabbled in Facebook and Instagram ads last year, via a course which encouraged engagement ads, leading to leads ads. I followed the advice and spent hundreds of pounds in ads, which didn’t lead to one sale and only gained me a few new newsletter subscribers. The final leads ad performed incredibly badly, which Facebook agreed with but after months of investigation, refused to refund the ad. I made the decision that I wasn’t going to give another penny to Facebook ads.
A few months later, I discovered Martha on Instagram, giving great advice about using Instagram for business. Even though there is a lot of (brilliant) content, it’s in easy, manageable, short videos, getting straight to the point with super helpful examples at every step for both product and service businesses. The examples really helped me to understand how to apply this to my own product business. Martha’s years of experience in running a product business and a service business are a huge asset to the course. I’ve taken a few courses with social media ‘experts’ who run a service business but it’s so hard to apply what they’re teaching to a product business. This course is the best of both worlds!

It gave me clarity and inspiration on how to move forward with Instagram with manageable steps and a plan. It’s really inspired me to up my Instagram game! I’ve taken a lot of courses over the years and this stands out both in terms of the excellent, actionable content and Martha’s outstanding teaching style and knowledge. The course covers how to use the Instagram Marketing Funnel, using the algorithms, making your account followable, learning about to give value in your content and use content buckets, how to reach the right people, how to make great reels, how to use SEO on Instagram, collaborating with other accounts, boosting your growth and then a monthly content plan to bring it all together. The course also includes some great resources including a review, checklist and a content plan. It amazes me how much of this I didn’t know existed like the marketing funnel and SEO! Even though this sounds a lot, Martha delivers it so succinctly with quick, actionable steps which prevent overwhelm and help you get implementing improvements straight away.
I’m now a month after taking the course and I’ve been gradually implementing lots of the little actions, especially with using Reels in a more effective way. I’ve also been working on adding more value to my content. I can’t believe how much it’s helped with bringing sales with the referral from Instagram. It felt like 2017, when I’d post about a new product and you’d see sales on my website pinging in within a few hours. I couldn’t believe it! It has really helped me find new people (and the right people) who are genuinely interested in my art.
I only wish this course had existed a year ago and I hadn’t wasted all that money on ads. I’m happy to spend the time on Instagram if I can see results with sales and this course has allowed me to find a way that works organically without paying for ads. I’m excited to keep working on what I’ve learnt during the course and implementing more changes.
